Need Help Training An Aggressive Dog? Try Clicker Training
Have you ever asked yourself “Is my dog aggressive“? If you have then you probably have good reason to think your dog is aggressive. If you are noticing that you dog is aggressive you have a couple options that are available to you for handling it.
The first of your options would be to just get rid of your dog (this is not recommended). While most people view their dogs as part of the family and would never want to get rid of them, for some this is the option they choose. If you do decide that the only way you can handle your aggressive dog is by getting rid of him then make sure he lands in a nice, safe home. You should never just let your dog go out the door. Dogs have had the wild breed out of them so the great outdoors is very unsafe for them out on their own.
An even better option would be to train your dog or have a dog trainer train him. There are a variety of classes you can take your dog to and there are private dog trainers most everywhere.
Clicker training is an excellent way to go about training aggressive dogs. When done properly, clicker training can help you see a major improvement in your dog’s behavior. What makes clicker training for dogs so wonderful is that after a bit you will be able to give your dog commands that he will follow without the use of the clicker or dog treats.
When you are doing clicker dog training timing is everything. If you mess this up it will be much harder to train your dog and will take much longer.
The second that your dog follows your command you need to click with the clicker and give them a treat. If you click to late your dog will only know that you are being very nice and giving him lots of treats.
Another thing to know about clicker training is that you do not want your dog to see the clicker in your hand. You can also click with your tongue instead of the clicker after your dog has gotten used to the clicking.
No matter how you are going to train your dog make sure you are using positive training methods. Not only will negative training methods hurt your dog but you will also notice a decline in your dogs behavior over time.
