Two Things To Do If Your Dog Eats Anything Bad

Chocolate can be like poison for a dog. A stimulant named THEOBROMINE , similar to caffeine, can cause eventual heart and nervous system injury or organ dysfunction. A 10 pound dog would have a toxic reaction to 10 ounces of milk chocolate. SEMI SWEET is twice as toxic as milk chocolate, causing danger to a dog 3-6 pounds that ingest 1 ounce. Calculate a 10 pound dog to 1 ounce of BAKERS CHOCOLATE for unsafe toxic levels. A 33 pound dog can ingest only 1 ounce of COCOA BEANS before toxicity will penetrate the system. Commit it to memory, keep chocolate away from you dog as it is a very bad thing.

The other day I met a live victim. A dog named Milo, a fuzzy yellow lab, was diagnosed with pancreatitis. The dogs owners told me that her dog had ingested an entire pound of chocolate. By the time they discovered what had happened, they didn’t even know when he might have ingested it, just empty wrappers under a table, it was too late to undue organ damage. There had been no signs of illness until the next day. Vomiting and diarrhea would be the most common symptoms. Only then did they know to go to the vet. Of course it was the weekend, an evening, and time passed because there were no symptoms to be alarmed by initially. They should have done two things immediately. The followed two things could have saved his now injured pancreas.

Induce vomiting if ever you suspect any toxic ingestion with the exception of caustic substances such as draino or bleach. Your primary medicine cabinet remedies for poison control are as follows:

HYDROGEN PEROXIDE given 1 teaspoon per 10 pounds of body weight, squirted down the throat with a syringe, or soaked into a piece of bread and fed, will induce vomiting, in most cases, within 20 minutes. If there is no vomit occuring the first time, repeat the process and try again, but only once more. although I have personally never had a dog not vomit, it yours does not then get in the car and go to the vet. However, usually vomiting will solve many issues. A dogs digestive track is much shorter than a humans and is easily vacated if vomiting is induced soon enough. vomiting must be induced within 2 hours of ingestion as the digestive track in dogs moves so fast that anything longer than that will not give a result of vomit. Be certain to see what is in the vomit! Take a look closely, in bright light, and see what you see. Look closely to see if you see what you thought you would see? Garbage? Plants?

First use Hydrogen Peroxide to induce the vomiting and then follow it with a dose of Activated Charcoal Caps. I have never found an exact dose for the charcoal but it is harmless and can only help. I give two tabs to my 30 pound dogs. Think of your water filtration system. Charcoal is the all absorbing ingredient that filters bad ingredients out of our drinking water. If you introduce charcoal into the digestive system it will absorb toxins very well removing harmful side effects of toxic foods. Don’t hesitate to give your dog CHARCOLA TABS whenever there is even the slightest chance of indigestion or toxicity. They work incredibly well.

So in summary, when in doubt about what your dog ate, or if you are sure it was chocolate, INDUCE VOMITING and FOLLOW with ACTIVATED CHARCOAL tabs.

Go to the vet if you do not see your dog vomit successfully. Always go to the vet when in doubt.
